The Impact of a Golf Swing on
Your Back
If you have ever been on a golf course, you know there are a variety of
twist and turns involved in the game. Overtime, these twist and turns can have
a negative impact on your back health. Fortunately, chiropractic care can help to alleviate many
of the problems that occur on the green.
A Reverse Spinal Angle and its
Impact on your Back
A Reverse Spine Angle refers to any excessive upper body backward bend or
excessive left (for right handed golfers) upper body bend during the backswing.
This awkward motion will make it difficult to initiate the downswing in the
proper sequence, because the lower body is in a position that usually limits
its ability to initiate the downswing. It's different than a Reverse Pivot.
A Reverse Spine Angle is one of the prime causes of low back pain among
amateur golfers. The upper body tends to dominate the swing due to reversed
bend, and it limits the lower-body movement. This pattern of movement puts
excessive tension on the low back because it will inhibit the abdominal
musculature during the backswing.
Several Physical Limitations or
Weakness can Result from a Reversed Spine Angle
Reduced spinal mobility
Limited hip joint or muscles
Lack of spinal stabilization
Too much pelvic tilt at address
Lack of forearm rotation on the backswing
Improper pelvic side-bend at address
